| Our Acting classes are created for the student who would like to pursue the entertainment industry in film, commercials, and television. The classes are broken down by level to cover the different areas in the study of acting. Instructors evaluate students as they move from one class to the next to verify that their skills have progressed sufficiently to move to the next level. All students must be pre-register and pay 5 days prior to class date. Classes without sufficient enrollment may be rescheduled. | ACTING LEVEL 1 | ||
| Acting Level 1 is for the beginning acting student and parent(s). This is where the foundation is laid so you don’t develop bad habits, and learn to recognize people and situations who can take advantage of you if you’re not aware of industry practice. The basics of Cold Reading and an Introduction to Scene Study are part of these beginning tools. Enrollment: 10-20 students. (special : Reg./pay #101,#102 & #103 and get 1/2 off 1 months "Acting WorkOut" classes #221 or #222) #101 - Audition tools- Intro to the Business (a parent is encouraged to attend with their child) The business of acting, headshots, resumes, agents, how to find auditions are all covered. Learn how the business really works, create the best possible resume, learn audition protocol, enabling you to be polished on that first and all following call backs. How to evaluate and choose the right head shot photo, finalize your resume, info on agents, how to find, submit and give a great audition, amd more. By the end of this class you will know how to get your business package ready and you will be ready to explore auditioning. 3 hour class. (special : Reg./pay #101,#102 & #103 and get 1/2 off 1 month "Acting WorkOut" classes #221 or #222) #102 - Intro to Cold reading Learn the mechanics to cold reading but also so much more. Auditions are not just about reading the words on the page. Discover the whole process of working with new material in a short time frame. Cold reading is a skill that every actor neets to master to nail that audition! 3 hour class. (special : Reg./pay #101,#102 & #103 and get 1/2 off 1 month "Acting WorkOut" classes #221 or #222) #103 - Intro to Scene Study Developing a process to breakdown your scenes and become the character within them, is one of the greatest skills you can learn as an actor, and one that will benefit you throughout your career. Learn a tried and true method, when mastered, will get you work. 3 hour class. (special : Reg./pay #101,#102 & #103 and get 1/2 off 1 month "Acting WorkOut" classes #221 or #222) #104 - Technology- Do your own Promotion, use social networking! It works! Learn to use the software that the professionals use to promote their companies, and the tricks of using social networking sites to be your best publicity advocate. What are the best tools to use to get fans, develop a following, how to keep up with all the major sites in a quick and timely manner. Web pages will also be covered. Bring your laptop if you have one. WiFi is available on site for class use. 3 hour class. #105 - Emerging Artists and Writers Designed to give one-on-one guidance to writers and artists just starting out or facing creative block. Learn to get past that first terrifying moment in front of a blank page and release your creative forces. Bring your laptop if you have one, or bring a notebook and writing insturment of choice. Or if you’ve already started a memoir, article, book, novel, script, poem or play bring it in and Joy Gee will help you get over the hurdle of finishing your project. 3 hour class. #106 - Intro to the technical side of the industry For every person who wants to be an actor, it takes at least another dozen to run the production to get those actors and the story on the screen. This class is an introduction to all the crew parts of a project, and what it takes to master them. Cameras, lights, sound, booms, producer, director, costuming, grips, best boy, and many others will be sampled. Find out where your strengths may lie. 3 hour class. |

| ACTING LEVEL 2 | ||
Acting Level 2 is for students who have their headshots and resume and can apply the basic audition tools of cold reading and on camera scene study. This is the level where the real work begins. Actors now learn to prepare for a role on camera, how to audition, do on camera scene study, how to make strong choices, and fine tune their audition. Other tools such as how to promote yourself with the technology of today as well as learning to write, so you can understand the total process when a writer develops a character that, as an actor you will portray. | #201- Role Preparation- On Camera Cold Read Acting is an interpretive art and the pressures of auditioning require that you make immediate and bold choices, expertly pick up the text off the page, and give a polished performance while remaining relaxed, spontaneous, and truthful. Easy to say, hard to do - this class works on all of these skills. Assigned scenes are appropriate to your casting type and you are invited to make mistakes here so that you don’t have to make them where it counts, in the audition. 3 hour class. (special : Reg./pay #201,#202 & #203 and get 1/2 off 1 month "Acting WorkOut" classes #221 or #222) #202- On camera Technique Classroom experience is invaluable, but actual on-camera work is a different animal altogether. It is important that an on camera acting class focus on all aspects of on-camera film and television acting as it exists in today's fast-paced industry – from matching action and blocking to performance consistency and coverage. Using scenes prepared in the Cold Reading class, you will learn all of these vital techniques here and receive expert critiques that will permanently deepen your understanding of working in front of the camera as you get comfortable in front of the lens. Designed specially for film and television, focusing: on character development, the rehearsal process, techniques and script breakdown. 3 hour class. (special : Reg./pay #201,#202 & #203 and get 1/2 off 1 month "Acting WorkOut" classes) #203 - Fine Tune Your Audition- Character Development Determining your type, learn the specifics of audition etiquette that will separate you from the others. We will continue scene study from #103 workshop with more in depth exploration: understand scene transitions, character transitions, "thoughts", how to use silence, taking risk and deepening emotions Evaluate your photos, choosing the right onefor the audition type, finalizing your resume, how to find, submit and give a great audition. By the end of this class you will have your entire business package ready and you will be auditioning with a professional and appropriate head shot and resume. No more excuses. 3 hour class. (special : Reg./pay #201,#202 & #203 and get 1/2 off 1 month "Acting WorkOut" classes #221 or #222) #204 - Intro to Writing for film, and TV Learn what makes a story that sells. Learn how to structure your thoughts, develop characters, and create a hook that leaves the audience wanting more. Learn to use the software that the professionals use for script writing that won’t break the bank: Celtx. Work with film, TV, and commercial copy style and formats. Bring your laptop if you have one. WiFi is available on site for class use. 3 hour class. #221, 222 ACTING WORKOUTS - Consistent acting workouts are where each young actor develops the strong fundamentals of their acting skills working with other actors. You learn to apply the skills you have learned in class. One hour a day, on your feet, utilizing all the skills you learn in your acting classes. Class focus will rotate each week so these topics are continually addressed to develop and broaden the skills of the actors. Each workout may include exercises for: improvisation, voice and diction, emotional memory, repetition, imagination, scene performance, audition skills, on camera practice, and voice over practice. If students have an audition piece they are working on please bring that along to class. Meets 1 hour a week for 4 weeks a month, every month. 1 hr. each session, Enrollment 8- 20 student. | ACTING LEVEL 3 | ||
| Acting Level 3 is for students who are serious about fine tuning their skills. Students must audition to move to level 3 classes. Email to set up an audition for evaluation -bring a marketable headshot and resume to the audition. Enrollment 8-20 students. #301 - Fine Tune Your Character Development - Make Strong Choices We will continue scene study from the previous workshops with more in depth exploration: This class is used to hone, strech, and further develop the actor’s instument. This is a safe place to create new characters and delve deeply into challenging material. It can also be used to “work out” and stay sharp. The actor prepares the scene for the medium it would be performed (film, sitcom, soap opera, theatre). Meet 3 hours a week for 4 weeks. SPECIAL GUEST WORKSHOPS - will be offered when special instructors are available. Please check your email and this site for details on these special events! We bring in special instructors as often as possible to add variety and expertise in various areas. Often these special instructors come by popular request, from our students’ suggestions. We are pleased to announce that Jeffrey Weissman will again be joining us for a special series in December. He was with us in the spring and is back by popular demand.
